What is Pilates?

What is Pilates? This technique was developed over seventy years ago by German athlete Joseph Pilates is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility and strength for the whole body without increasing its volume. More than a physical workout, Pilates uses a series of controlled movements attractive to both the mind and body. The Pilates technique integrates Eastern and Western theories and related practice of specific exercises coupled with breathing techniques.

Joseph Pilates designed more than 600 movements or exercises to be performed by oneself or with specific equipment. It holds its practices on the ground, using their own body weight to provide resistance.

Pilates can be practiced by anyone regardless of age and fitness. The workout can be designed to accommodate the specific physical conditions of a person or fitness goals.

The Pilates method can also be integrated as part of rehabilitation exercises or physical therapy programs, designed to recover more quickly from injury or to prevent certain tissues. These are modified versions of this technique, led by specialists.

Pilates Method

The Pilates Method has become the benchmark for training the body and mind. Pilates training can help relaxation and stress management, besides other considerable benefits.

The exercise techniques for the mind and body known as “Pilates” has exploded in popularity worldwide over the past ten years. This technique, which was practiced by dancers and athletes for a long time, an estimated U.S. only about 5 million people now practice it regularly at home or in the gym. Apart from the physical, his supporters argue that Pilates training can help to relax the mind and control stress.

Key elements of Pilates:

* Puts emphasis on fewer and more precise movements rather than the continuous repetition of an exercise.
* Strengthen the body axis of abdomen, back and buttocks, allowing more freedom of movement of other body areas.
* Increased body awareness and control because the mind has to connect with the body during movements.
* It focuses on breath control, together with the movements.
